Location:
The resort of Elounda was originally a small fishing town in Mirabello Bay on the island of Crete. Although fishing is still a big part of life in this very scenic area, tourism has become Elounda’s main industry. It is part of the municipality of Agios Nikolaos. It is popular with European tourists and has many hotels including several 5*. The town is a 10-minute drive to Agios Nikolaos and the village of Plaka (Lasithi).
Agios Nikolaos is the capital of the County of Lasithi and is located in Mirabello Bay in the north-east of Crete, just 45 minutes from Heraklion International Airport.
Geographically, the town is well sheltered from strong winds, which allows for sea sports and swimming almost all year round. The microclimate is one of the best in Greece and moderate temperatures rarely exceed 30°C in summer and do not drop below 15°C in winter.
