Locality
Šilo is a small coastal town on the northeast side of the island of Krk. It is located opposite the tourist resort of Crikvenica, which is on the mainland and can be reached in just 20 minutes by car via the Krk Bridge. Šilo is a much quieter place than the famous town of Krk or Malinska and is ideal for families with children, especially thanks to the nearby sandy and pebble beaches. In Šilo you can find small restaurants with homemade specialties, cafes and ice cream parlours. It used to be just a small fishing village, but fishing is still very present in Šilo and is one of the popular activities, including sport and recreational fishing. For more active holidaymakers, Šilo has beach volleyball, tennis courts and bowling alleys. Close to Šilo is the bay of Soline, which is famous for its healing mud. It is also an excellent location for cycling. Divers also find Šilo a particularly interesting location because of the Greek cargo ship “Peltastis”, which sank near Šilo during a night storm in January 1968. The wreck of the “Peltastis” lies on the sandy bottom at a depth of only 20-30 metres, while the ship’s mast is at a depth of only 10 metres.
