The tasting is accompanied by appetizers and water: – Rhodope trout with Muscat; – Vegetables (fresh and dried) from Thrace with rosé; – Bulgarian cheese from the Plovdiv region with merlot; – Lukanka (local salami) from the Stara Planina mountain with pamida (the oldest Bulgarian wine variety); – Chocolate bars with Dives sweet wine.

The winery offers a large tasting room for 50 people and free parking. Be sure to try the Mrelo Barrique Special Selection 2012 red wine, which won the gold medal for high quality wines at the world’s most prestigious wine competition, Decanter World Wine 2014.

DiVes Estate Winery was built on the historic hill land of King Simeon the Great, this hill is located 10 minutes drive from the resort of Sunny Beach, between the villages of Aheloy and Kableshkovo. Its location opens up spectacular views of the sea coast. Vineyards and lavender orchards stretch along the south-eastern slopes of the hilly landscape near the winery. The grapes ripen beautifully thanks to the moderately hot summers and constant autumn. The warm sun, salty sea and constant sea breeze are essential to the flavour of this wine.

The place was named after King Simeon the Great (863-927) because it is believed that he led and won the Battle of Aheloy from this spot on 20 August 917 AD. This battle is one of the largest in Europe throughout the Middle Ages. At first it seemed that the Byzantine troops dominated, but at the most critical moment, the Bulgarian king Simeon attacked with his cavalry and the remaining troops that had been hiding until then. The Byzantine army scattered and was destroyed by the Bulgarians. Simeon the Great won a decisive victory.
