Preparing for the euro is a process that takes several years and depends on various factors, including a country’s economic stability, its ability to meet the euro area criteria and so on.
Today, we already know that the original 2024 deadline for adopting the euro will not be met. Already last year, in 2023, Bulgaria cancelled its target date for adopting the euro in January 2024, as the inflation rate did not meet the standard and certain legal changes still had to be introduced.
The current target date is January 2025. However, the target date is not fixed, but the government is working hard to meet this new target date and to kick-start the euro adoption process.
But there is a new change for travellers from 31 March
